Städelschule Building

The Städelschule Frankfurt dates back to a foundation established in 1817 by the Frankfurt resident Johann Friedrich Städel. This foundation concerned an assessment of traditional and contemporary art as well as the development of entirely new practices. In time two different institutions emerged, the Städelmuseum and the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule .
The Städelschule has established itself as one of the most experimental and radical art academies and it has always been open to new tendencies in contemporary art.
Approximately 40% of the 170 students are from abroad and are taught by German and international professors and lecturers who are active in the international contemporary art scene. At the Städelschule the teaching of fine arts is based on an integration of technique and practice; courses are offered in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, film, fine arts, interdisciplinary art and architecture.
